Home 9 About Me ( Page 17 )

My name is Tomas Kapitan, and I am a lead solution architect. I have been working with Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central since 2014.

I started my journey as a NAV developer during my University studies, but I quickly moved to a lead role. For the last few years, I have been leading new developers on their way to understanding both C/AL & AL languages and core Business Central processes.

I have collaborated with companies in many countries, including the Czech Republic, the USA, Germany, Spain, the UK, Russia, UAE, and Bahrain.

As a Business Application Manager for Czech leading Microsoft ERP Gold Partner ARTEX Informační systémy, spol. s r.o., I had the opportunity to deliver many innovative solutions.

So far, I have led and participated in more than 30 implementation projects (usually mid-size companies, 75–500 employees) across all industries (manufacturing, wholesale, retail, service companies, etc.) worldwide.

Current Status

I recently moved to Brisbane, Australia, and I am open to new opportunities worldwide. If you have any questions regarding my services, please reach me at [email protected].

You can also meet me in person at the upcoming Directions4Partners EMEA, where I will have a session together with @MVPKine. It’s an Extended Technical Session, which will take 90-100 minutes!

My Experiences

Since I have started my journey with Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central in 2014, I designed, consulted, and led many interesting projects from various industries of different sizes.

In the section below, I’ve described the most interesting projects that I worked on, or I’m still working on. In addition to the listed projects, I did many smaller projects in different positions for different companies. If you are interested in more details about used technologies etc. please let me know. I can not share many details due to NDAs, but I will definitely find some interesting parts I am allowed to show.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Classic, version 3.7 – 2009)

Many projects with ongoing support for clients who had used these versions of the system. Almost every one of them has already upgraded their ERP to the newer Microsoft Dynamics NAV or 365 Business Central. These projects include companies from various industries such as

  • Retail/Wholesale
  • HR
  • Services
  • Manufacturing

Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Role Tailored, version 2013 – 2018)

With this version of the system, I led various projects for different companies. I did approximately 10 – 15 implementation projects, for example:

Implementation of NAV2017 in Wholesale/Retail Company

Company & project details:

  • No. of users: more than 250
  • No. of employees: more than 400
  • Annual turnover: €75-100.000.000 (2019, from publicly available documents)
  • Project size: more than 350 Person Days with more than 125 Person Days a year in smaller projects (2018 – 2022, each year)
  • Most interesting parts
    • Sign Pad integration for more than 25 shops
    • Integration with Card Payment Terminals
    • Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
    • Online Bank Integration
    • Advanced Warehouse System with custom Mobile App
    • B2C and B2B fully integrated e-shop

Implementation of NAV2017 in Manufacturing Company

Company & project details:

  • No. of users: more than 100
  • No. of employees: more than 450
  • Annual turnover: €125-150.000.000 (2017, from publicly available documents)
  • It was one of my most challenging projects. The company originally implemented NAV with different Microsoft Partner. However, due to some changes in management on both sides of the project, the project failed. I took over the project 2 months after the Go-Live in a really bad state. It took me almost 1.5 years to redesign the solution to be fully accepted by all company’s users.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

In 2018 Microsoft brought redesigned solution called Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. The major change in this version is the architecture of the whole platform – Dynamics NAV was an installed application, but Business Central is accessible using a web browser. It also allowed Microsoft to offer a “Cloud-based” version of the system (as SaaS / Software-as-a-Service).

Last two years, I am more focused on teaching developers and other professionals how to program. But I still have a huge passion for designing solutions and leading developers on interesting projects such as:
